Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Prepare for rig lease operations
  2. Prepare and operate pneumatic and electric power tools
  3. Assist drill crew in running and recovery of blow out prevention stack
  4. Provide labour for loading and unloading transport
  5. Provide labour for making up drilling mud, fluid or air injection requirements

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

carry out rig lease operations on at least two occasions, including:

interpreting and applying:

work schedules

manufacturer instructions

safety data sheet

safe operating procedures

selecting and fitting chain, stinger and slings required for loads

transferring equipment by forklift

placing, measuring, labelling and recording details of tubular

loading rod racks, strapping and numbering tubulars

assisting in running and recovery of blow out prevention stack

operating air tugger winch if required

assisting in supply of transport equipment to drill floor and loading and unloading materials and equipment.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply documentation, policies and procedures required for carrying out rig lease operations

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for carrying out rig lease operations, including:

identifying, addressing and reporting potential hazards and risks

controlling identified hazards

identifying, addressing and reporting environmental issues

preparing written records and reports

rectifying and reporting faults and malfunctions as required

work with others to undertake and complete rig lease operations that meet required outcomes, including:

complying with written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating with others to receive and clarify work instructions

communicating with others to meet coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and established requirements for carrying out rig lease operations, including those for:

identifying and managing risks

identifying and managing environmental issues

setting up for work activity

site isolation including using signage and erecting barriers

work health and safety

emergencies

work operations

selecting plant, tools and equipment to carry out tasks

operating equipment

identifying faults in plant, tools and equipment

specifications for work

using safety equipment in event of personal contact with hazardous materials

loading, unloading, lifting and moving equipment

mixing mud and fluids

air injection

drill floor operations

accessing and interpreting safety data sheets

communicating with other personnel prior to commencing, during and on completion of work activities

measuring for operational practices using tools, including tapes, rulers and calibration devices

a range of numerical calculations and measurements, including

length

quantities

volumes

conversion rates

converting measurements between metric and imperial

safe lifting techniques

manual handling techniques

normal well servicing operations

non-routine well servicing operations

equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations.
